Uber driver arrested at hit-and-run in Miami Seashore who hospitalized a scooter driver – NBC 6 South Florida
An Uber driver who hit an electric scooter over the weekend and fled the scene was arrested, police said.
Hans Daniel Duran-Nieves, 24, turned himself in to the police on Monday to face the charge of leaving the scene of the accident without serious injuries in the accident on Sunday morning, the police said.
According to an arrest report, Duran-Nieves was driving his Toyota sedan with a passenger around Alton Road and 11th Street around 3 a.m. when he hit the scooter driver identified as Michaela Mateos.
Duran-Nieves tried to get past the scooter, the report said.
Mateos was thrown onto the road where she was run over by another car, the driver of which stayed at the scene.
Duran-Nieves stopped, got out of his car for less than a minute, and then fled the scene, the report said.
Mateos was taken to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, but suffered a broken left tibia.
Duran-Nieves told investigators he knew he hit the woman but fled nervousness, the report said.
Duran-Nieves was taken into custody. Legal information was not available.
