Kobo’s StoryGraph integration is finally live
Rakuten Kobo and StoryGraph launched their long-anticipated integration on June 29, 2026, making the feature available worldwide for all Kobo account-based content, officials said. The partnership aims to provide readers with deeper insights through seamless syncing between Kobo’s e-readers and the community-driven StoryGraph platform.
The integration, announced in a Kobo press release dated May 19, 2026, from Toronto, Ontario, officially went live on June 29, 2026, according to reports from TechCrunch and News Dive. The feature is now accessible worldwide for all content linked to Kobo accounts, enabling automatic syncing between Kobo e-readers and apps and the StoryGraph platform for both ebooks and audiobooks, officials said. Kobo described StoryGraph as a “community-driven platform for book lovers” that unlocks “deeper reading insights” through native syncing.
The partnership enables Kobo users to have their reading progress automatically updated on StoryGraph, including “Recently opened books” syncing to StoryGraph’s “Currently Reading” shelf, reading progress percentages, and automatic marking of finished books as “Read,” according to Kobo’s official feature list.
Android Authority confirmed that the integration supports syncing of current reads, progress, finished books, and star ratings, while News Dive noted that progress percentages are translated into page numbers or listening duration depending on format. The integration works across all Kobo devices and apps, and covers all Kobo account-based content, including titles purchased or borrowed via the Kobo store and OverDrive/Libby in North America, sources confirmed.
Users retain full control over the integration with manual override options available within the StoryGraph interface, officials said. News Dive reported that users can enable or disable the integration at any time via their Kobo account settings, and Liseuses.net added that disconnecting accounts does not delete data already shared with StoryGraph. The synchronization is one-way, from Kobo to StoryGraph; annotations and inverse syncing from StoryGraph back to Kobo are not supported, according to Liseuses.net. Highlights, notes, and previously logged reading history are also excluded from syncing, News Dive reported.
The integration is offered at no additional cost to Kobo users, according to Kobo’s press materials and coverage by Liseuses.net. While StoryGraph offers a separate Plus subscription for $5 per month that provides enhanced statistics, filters, custom charts, and comparison tools, the Kobo–StoryGraph integration itself requires no subscription, TechCrunch and News Dive confirmed. There is no indication from Kobo or StoryGraph of any tiered access or regional pricing specific to the integration.
The integration aims to reduce the time readers spend manually logging progress and increase access to reading analytics and personalized recommendations, Kobo officials said. T3 reported that syncing Kobo stats into StoryGraph will provide insights into reading habits, feedback, and personalized book suggestions. The Verge highlighted that users can leverage StoryGraph’s advanced analytics to gain deeper insights into reading behaviors, including charts illustrating reading moods and speed. Additionally, StoryGraph enables users to follow specific topics and authors, receive tailored content in personalized feeds, and get email notifications, with Kobo reading progress feeding into these community and discovery features.
The partnership positions Kobo as a more open e-reader alternative to Amazon’s Kindle ecosystem. TechCrunch described Kobo as “a more open e-reader (and Kindle alternative)” and characterized the StoryGraph partnership as “another way to chip away at Amazon’s dominance in the digital books market.” The Verge referred to StoryGraph as an “Amazon-free Goodreads competitor,” framing Kobo’s integration as support for this alternative ecosystem. News Dive noted the integration provides a “compelling alternative to Kindle and Goodreads,” underscoring the competitive angle against Amazon-linked services.
StoryGraph’s public feature roadmap confirmed June 2026 as the target launch month, with the team “focusing on getting the integration out for June as per the announcement.” The integration follows the initial announcement in May and represents a strategic collaboration between Kobo and StoryGraph to enhance user experience and reading analytics through seamless syncing of Kobo account-based content worldwide.
