Bose QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds refresh with aptX Lossless at $299, available April 27

Bose announced the QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen) on June 12, 2025, with a launch set for April 27, available at Bose.com for $299. According to the company, the new earbuds feature enhanced adaptive noise cancellation, improved voice pickup, and wireless charging to elevate the listening experience.

The earbuds are set to launch on April 27, 2025, with pre-orders and direct sales emphasized through Bose’s online platform, officials confirmed.

The QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen) will be available in three color options: Black, White Smoke, and a limited-edition Deep Plum, priced at $299 exclusively through Bose.com, according to an official press release from Bose dated June 12, 2025.

Bose described the new earbuds as the flagship model in its QuietComfort line, retaining the brand’s hallmark features of world-class noise cancellation, high-quality audio, and stability. The company highlighted several enhancements over the original QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds, announced in September 2023, including improved adaptive noise cancellation that offers smoother adjustments to sudden noise spikes, according to Bose’s pressroom statement. The updated algorithm also refines the ActiveSense feature in Aware Mode, ensuring that external sounds such as trains and sirens do not overpower audio content.

The 2nd Gen earbuds incorporate Bose’s proprietary CustomTune technology, which dynamically adapts noise cancellation and audio performance to the listener’s ear shape and environment, officials said. This feature aims to maintain the QuietComfort line’s reputation for comfort and stability during extended use.

On the audio front, the earbuds support Qualcomm’s aptX Adaptive codec, enabling automatic adjustment between lossless audio quality and low latency, according to Bose. The earbuds are also compatible with SBC and AAC Bluetooth codecs, broadening device support. The company noted that the earbuds retain the Bose Immersive Audio experience from the prior generation, including CustomTune personalization, and enable hi-definition audio on Snapdragon Sound-certified devices. However, Bose’s announcement did not specify support for aptX Lossless in this generation.

Battery life is expected to provide up to six hours of playback per charge with Immersive Audio turned off, and approximately four hours when the feature is active, based on specifications from the previous generation cited in Bose’s materials. The 2nd Gen earbuds introduce wireless charging as a new feature, enhancing convenience for users. Bose also offers an optional wireless charging case cover, which has been available since October 20, 2023, priced at $49, according to company records.

Connectivity features include support for Bluetooth Core 5.3 and multipoint connectivity, allowing simultaneous connection to two devices. The earbuds also support Google Fast Pair for expedited pairing with Android devices. Bose confirmed backward compatibility with Bluetooth 5.3 standards from the original Ultra Earbuds and emphasized seamless connectivity with premium Android devices through Snapdragon Sound certification.

Design improvements include enhanced voice pickup for clearer calls and interactions, while maintaining the legendary comfort and stability associated with the QuietComfort line. Users can manage settings such as equalizer adjustments, active noise cancellation modes, and personalization options via the Bose app, officials said.

The QuietComfort Ultra Earbuds (2nd Gen) follow the original Ultra Earbuds launched in September 2023 and build on Bose’s strategy to position the QuietComfort series as a premium offering in the noise-cancelling earbud market. The April 27 launch date aligns with Bose’s product timing strategy for 2025, with no indication of third-party retailer availability or pricing bundles at this time.
