A scooter accident in St. Petersburg critically injured two girls

ST. PETERSBURG – Two women were seriously injured on Wednesday after posting a stop sign on 44th Street South and crashing the scooter they were driving into another vehicle, according to St. Petersburg Police.

The women were 18 and 20, police said. They were driving south near 22nd Avenue South around noon when the crash occurred.

Police say they were able to avoid hitting a vehicle heading east on 22nd Avenue North after passing the stop sign, but not a second in the next lane.

The driver of the vehicle was not injured, police said. None of the women were identified by the authorities. The investigation is still ongoing.
