We know 360˚ cameras have been a thing for a while, but the Insta360 One X2 may have sent the opposition into the naughty corner.
The latest version of Insta360 is touted as “like a film crew in your pocket,” and while this could be an issue with the current social distancing rules, it makes sense to compare it once you dig into the details. This is a camera that allows you to capture the action from every possible angle. With the Bullet Time feature alone, your Instagram feed will look like a trailer from The Matrix.
Angle from the realm of fame Add to video viewer
1) All angles are covered
In addition to 360˚ videos with a maximum resolution of 5.7 KB, the waterproof One X2 offers a Steady Cam function, InstaPano for panoramas and MultiView for shared screenshots. Dolly Zoom creates catwalk-style content while Stop Motion Mix, Clone Trail and Shadow Clone reproduce body imagery in seconds to create aerial imagery that Zion Williamson would be proud of.
In a scary premonition of the world in 2020, Ghost Town can clear the streets of people in your shot, flip 360˚ time-lapse, and remove them instantly. You can lock the horizon, follow a moving subject, or record your own antics with the invisible selfie stick (the only good kind) to capture cinematic perspectives that may previously have required a drone.
And with six-axis stabilization, four microphones, a touchscreen display and voice control for barking commands during a fake “Best Boy” round of the One X2 package.
2) AI-supported editing offers you a lot of flexibility
The One X2 doesn’t neglect post-production either. Thanks to the AI-assisted editing via the Insta360 Shot Lab app, you don’t have to point to or select a preferred angle during the exposure. Simply select one while editing, or let the camera create epic cuts.
How is that even possible? Auto Frame combs every inch of your 360˚ footage and redesigns the shot to find the best highlights. A TimeShift Hyperlapse feature adjusts the playback speed as you change your shot in any direction (or let AI do the work), while Bullet Time 3.0 slows the center of the action for a Hollywood drama spot.
3) It is a deep sea diver
Swimming with the fish is a matter of course for the One X2. It’s IPX8 water resistant to a depth of 33 feet, but grab an extra dive case and the bar is set to a 148 foot GoPro – the same depth as the world’s deepest swimming pool, DeepSpot in Poland if you wonder.
And here are some alternatives …
Replacing the clunky Fusion, the Max offers most of GoPro’s most popular shooting capabilities as well as the same assembly capabilities, just with the addition of 360˚ smarts.
The Kandao does something that other 360˚ cameras cannot – recordings in 8K resolution, which makes it virtually unique for image quality.
The XR is similar to Johnny 5 from Short Circuit and corresponds to the Insta360 One X2 in terms of its maximum recording capacity of 5.7 KB.
