While many of us go wireless for our headphones, there are still many who prefer wired ones.
For those who use both, Astell & Kern has brought this to market – the Acro CA1000, a fully featured headphone amplifier with built-in digital audio player smarts.
The $ 2,100 / £ 1,999 has a range of different headphone outputs and loads of different inputs including optical, coaxial, USB-C and analog. You can also charge devices using a separate USB-C port.
The ACRO CA1000 also has Bluetooth 5.0 with support for 24-bit aptXTM HD and LDAC codecs. So if you want to be on the move wirelessly, you can do so easily and with the best sound quality.
The device’s digital audio player is similar to the excellent standalone players from Astell & Kern. It has an Android-based operating system and a 4.1-inch touchscreen.
Plus, it comes standard with 256GB of storage so you can store lots of high resolution albums for playback. The volume of sound sources can also be set uniformly so that you do not have to constantly adjust the volume.
Because of its size, we wouldn’t call it a portable device (like something like the Chord Mojo) and it’s probably more suitable for home use, perhaps at the desk. However, it has an 8,400 mAh battery for up to 10.5 hours of playback if you want to take it with you to a place where you don’t have access to a power source.
