Will the iPhone 14 Professional actually have this new look?

Latest rumors suggest that the iPhone 14 will have a rather striking new look with the removal of the current “notch” at the top of the display. The replacement will appear to be a skewed double cutout, dot and dash, according to display analyst Ross Young.

The new design was created by FrontPageTech concept artist Ian Zelbo (above) and posted to Twitter.

One reason for the notable notch in current iPhones — even if they got smaller with the iPhone 13 series — is the TrueDepth camera, infrared camera, and dot projector that power Face ID technology. Those three things sit in the current notch alongside the front camera and proximity/ambient light sensors and a microphone. The front speaker is now above the notch on the iPhone 13 at the top edge of the phone.

Young, in a report for Display Supply Chain Consultants, says the new design will still be unique to Apple and there won’t be a single horizontal cut-out, as was also recently rumored.

We now think Apple will have a Hole + Pill design on the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models. The smaller hole will not be invisible… The two-hole concept will be unique to Apple, like the notch, not similar to all Huawei’s pill models… Let’s see these new renderings pic.twitter.com/Udt8cTKzPZ

The new design would represent a downsizing of the current system – albeit not a huge space saving – but it’s not the first we’ve heard of it – there’s been a bit of an uproar about such a design before, most recently on Twitter in September.

Other related rumors also came last year from reasonably reliable Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who first called the new design exclusive to Pro (meaning iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max and not the standard iPhone 14 and 14). iPhone 14 mini, if you have one). appears). However, he had previously spoken of a notch-free iPhone in March 2021.

The new report was surfaced by 9to5Mac. The design would certainly set the iPhone apart from Android competitors that typically resort to a single cutout. However, the potential new iPhone 14 design certainly isn’t as different from other phones as the notch.
