Teledyne FLIR’s Thermal Zoom Drone Payload: Extra Pixels. Extra accuracy.

Teledyne FLIR introduces the payload of the radiometric Vue TZ20-R Thermal Zoom drone. The high-resolution radiometric gimbal thermal drone payload for the DJI V2 Matrice 200 series and Matrice 300 offers pixel-by-pixel temperature measurement with up to 20x digital zoom.

Radiometry allows users to measure the temperature of every pixel in the scene. Thanks to the thermal zoom function, users can search or inspect more areas in less time, with fewer false positives and faster insights. “With two FLIR bosons with a resolution of 640 × 512® Thermal imaging camera modules, one of which offers a narrow field of view (18 degrees) and the other a wide field of view (95 degrees), the Vue TZ20-R offers even more situational awareness, accuracy and context by offering more pixels in the target area with the corresponding temperature data “Says the Teledyne FLIR press release.

Designed for public safety and industry, the new TZ20-R is tough enough to function in inclement weather (IP44 rating) and light enough to extend flight time, weighing in at 1.4 pounds (640 grams ). The dual camera system offers “unmatched warmth” zoom performance at five, 10 and 20 digital zoom for a wide variety of public safety and industrial missions, ”the press release said. “The dual boson camera modules also offer four times more radiometric pixels in the target at each zoom level compared to all competitors …”

Public safety and industrial inspections

The TZ20-R could be a turning point for public safety agencies using the payload for search and rescue, fire fighting, or law enforcement. Thermal zoom reduces false positives, provides more accurate data, and still allows teams to keep their distance and search in silence.

In industrial inspections, the thermal zoom function means that inspectors get unmatched clarity – and still maintain a safe distance from the inspection site.

“Operators can use in-app features like isotherms to automatically detect the temperatures of interest, ideal for industrial inspections and public safety where quick anomaly detection is business critical,” the press release said.

Plug and play setup

The TZ20-R is easy to use and easy to connect to the DJI Matrice 300 or V2 Matrice 200 series via the Skyport V2.0 gimbal. Thermal and still image data can be recorded on two microSD cards, along with the ability to stream thermal images in flight. After the mission, operators can export the data to FLIR Thermal Studio and third-party data processing software for in-depth analysis and review.

The FLIR Vue TZ20-R can be pre-ordered and will be delivered in October through authorized dealers. Find out more at https://www.flir.com/vue-tz20-R.
