Two-time Olympic gold medalist Sushil Kumar was arrested by Delhi police in connection with the murder of a 23-year-old wrestler. Sushil escaped arrests but was caught while on his way to meet someone in West Delhi.

After more than a week on the run, wrestler Sushil Kumar was arrested by police in Delhi on Sunday in connection with the murder of a 23-year-old wrestler after a brawl at Chhatrasal Stadium in New Delhi.

The two-time Olympic champion and his colleague Ajay Kumar were arrested in Mundka, a city in West Delhi. As it turned out, Sushil and his staff had got out of their car and rode a scooter to meet someone in the state capital before they were arrested.

To avoid arrest, Sushil kept changing locations. It turns out that after the death of Sagar Rana, the 23-year-old wrestler on May 5, Sushil left for Haridwar and Rishikesh. He later returned to Delhi but was not found at his home when Delhi police raided his place.

Earlier, the Delhi Police announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for information leading to the arrest of Sushil Kumar.

In particular, images of the decorated wrestler sitting in his car emerged Information accessed by India Today from a toll station in Meerut. Police added that the picture is from May 6th, the day after the murder of international wrestler Rana after a brawl. The Delhi police used this image to try to track down the car.

Against an FIR for murder, kidnapping and criminal conspiracy has been registered Sushil Kumar. Last week, a Delhi court issued an arrest warrant for Sushil and six other people in connection with the Chhatrasal Stadium brawl after a look-out notice was issued against the two-time Olympic champion in the same case.

Sagar Rana had trained at Chhatrasal Stadium, where Sushil had been a notable figure. Sagar died while two of the young wrestler’s friends were injured after they were allegedly attacked by Sushil and several other wrestlers on May 4th.

The victims of the case said that Sushil was present at the location where the incident occurred. The victims alleged in their testimony that Sushil and his staff abducted Sagar from his Model Town home to teach him a lesson on how to mouth him badly in front of other wrestlers, police said.
