Perth-based e-scooter manufacturer Vmoto is planning an attack on the Indian market for electric two-wheelers with CUX and CUmini e-scooters

India’s market for electric two-wheelers is growing by leaps and bounds. The market for electric two-wheelers was around 1.52 lakh units in the 2020 financial year and is expected to grow at an annual growth rate of around 25 percent in the period 2021-26. The segment is currently being used by the likes of Hero Electric, Okinawa Autotech Pvt. Ltd, Ampere Vehicles, Ather etc and newcomers are also making a bee line for this segment and pointing out the demand prospects.

One such new addition to the Indian electric vehicle segment is Perth-based e-scooter manufacturer Vmoto. The manufacturer of electric two-wheelers has signed an agreement with Bird Group for the distribution of SuperSoco CUmini and SuperSoco CUx.

Vmoto is an Australian electric motorcycle manufacturer that has entered into a joint venture with SuperSoco of China to create a company called Vmoto Soco. The Bird Group is the parent company of Bird Automotive, one of the leading premium car dealerships in India for BMW and MINI.

According to a study conducted by Bird Group, the SuperSoco CUmini and SuperSoco CUx were ideally suited for the Indian market, although Vmoto has three electric two-wheelers in its range, namely TS Street Hunter, TC Wanderer and CUmini.

Bird Automotive also has exclusive distribution rights for Segway Personal Transporters. The company has over 500 corporate clients and a wide variety of individual buyers and has a close relationship with the Government of India. The company had unveiled a SuperSoco electric scooter, code-named ES1 +, at the 2020 Auto Expo.

The Bird Group will initially use 20 units of the CUmini e-scooter for test purposes. These are being used as part of a government-run ridesharing project in New Delhi. In its first year of operation, Vmoto is targeting orders of 10,000 units for a total value of approximately A $ 13.8 million (Rs 77.5 billion).

The SuperSoco CUmini is an entry-level model and has a minimal design. Soco CUx, on the other hand, is a lightweight scooter for shorter distances. It rides on 12-inch wheels and is given color options of red, black, gray, and white.

The CUmini receives functions such as LED rear lights and indicators, keyless start with remote control and a monochrome LCD instrument cluster. With the SuperSoco app, riders can access the bike, call up the vehicle status control and the GPS location as well as the alarm status, the movement history and the navigation data.

The CUmini is powered by a 0.6 kW electric motor together with a 0.96 kWh battery pack with NCM technology and a FOC 3.3 control unit. The battery can be removed for easier charging and weighs 7.2 kg in total. Charging from 0 to 100 percent takes about 7 hours and offers a range of 60 to 70 km, while the top speed is 45 km / h. SuperSoco CUmini consumes less than 1.6 kWh per 100 km.
