Sony has announced that the PlayStation 5’s DualSense controller will soon be available in two new colors: Midnight Black ($ 69.99) and Cosmic Red ($ 74.99). The new color options will be available from participating retailers worldwide from June.
The Midnight Black features two subtly different shades of black with light gray details that evoke the more stealthy look of previous PlayStation versions, including the last generation PS4. The Cosmic Red has a black and red design that gives it a very science fiction look. Sony said the design was inspired by the unique, vibrant shades of red found throughout the cosmos. The button colors and details of the controller have also been adjusted to complement the new colors.
“Our goal is always to find designs that surprise and seduce our fans. These new colors are the result of an extensive selection process,” said Leo Cardoso of Sony. “We wanted the new controller colors, as well as the original DualSense wireless controller and PS5 console, to complement each other. That’s why we designed the colors around the “galaxy” theme, as this is a natural evolution of the original PS5 and accessory design. ”
These new color options differ greatly from the sterile white of the PlayStation 5. However, they are branded products from Sony, which traditionally brought out its consoles and accessories in black or gray. It remains to be seen whether these new DualSense colors will find their way to the PlayStation 5. The console has removable faceplates, and people have asked Sony to offer different color options. As of now, the only way to get different faceplates is to find them through a third-party provider.
It can be a moot point anyway, as it’s virtually impossible to find a PlayStation 5, and a semiconductor shortage could mean the console won’t be available in very limited quantities until 2022 at the earliest. But at least we have new DualSense colors.
