Scooter franchisees enthusiastic about Farmington location |

Scooter’s Coffee, 401 Karsch Blvd., holds its official band break on January 11th and is operational serving coffee and beverages daily in the Farmington area.

Jackson, Missouri residents Bart and Keri Vandeven are franchisees of Scooter and Farmington is the fourth store they have opened to date. Bart spoke enthusiastically about how business has picked up in the city.

“Farmington is a great community,” he said. “We built our first store in Jackson, where we live. When we came up here the atmosphere, the people seemed to be just the kind of people we are used to from there. We are a family atmosphere, a family organization. We felt we had to be here.

“When we started asking local businesses how it was to do business in Farmington, everyone said Farmington was a great place. When so many people tell you it’s a great place to do business, you want to start doing business there immediately.”

The Vandevens have had great sales at their Farmington location since opening.

“Farmington’s welcomed us with open arms,” he said. “Compared to the other stores, it beat all the launch metrics we had. We compared it to what we did in Jackson, Cape Girardeau, Perryville – and that’s what we were hoping for here, and it had better numbers.”

The idea of becoming a Scooter’s Coffee franchisee came about about six years ago when the couple traveled to Boise, Idaho. Bart said it became the couple’s dream.

“We saw a little drive-through cafe and every day that we were there we saw people queuing,” he said. “My wife was a breath teacher and I worked at the Proctor and Gamble factory. We said we wanted to do something where we could work together. We loved this concept and when we decided to do this three years ago we went looking for the right company to work with and found Scooter’s Coffee to work with and became a franchisee.”

Keri said the opening of the stores allowed them to quit their day jobs and work together. They plan to open more stores north of Farmington in the near future.

“I’ve been to various sporting events in Farmington but never really had to do anything in the community,” she said. “Opening here has been a very positive impact. It was surprising how supportive the community is, and we love the small-town community feel.”

The couple’s first store opened in Jackson in 2020, followed by Perryville last summer. The Vandevens opened the Cape and Farmington stores back-to-back. Scooter’s is a franchise based out of Omaha, Nebraska. With over 400 locations, it is currently the fourth largest coffee chain in the United States. Bart thinks it will move up to third place by the end of the year.

Speaking of Scooter’s product line, he said: “Of course we have coffee. We are known for our espresso drinks. We also have espresso and decaffeinated espresso. We have Red Bull Infusions, a Red Bull drink that comes in different flavors. It’s very popular, especially with younger people.”

Scooter’s also offers teas, smoothies, and hot chocolate in the drinks category. The smoothies can add energy or protein at the customer’s request.

Referring to Scooter’s signature drink, Bart described the Caramelicious as “…velvet caramel mixed with our espresso — and we can make it hot, iced, or blended.” You can have it how you want it. That’s typically number one in all stores.”

According to Bart, Scooter’s also offers breakfast throughout the day.

“Our all-bagel is popular,” he said. “We have a waffle sandwich, a maple waffle with sausage and cheese. We have bacon ciabattas, burritos, pastries, blueberry muffins, a caramel muffin, and chocolate chip cookies all day.”

Keri loves the Scooter app, which not only gives customers a quick and easy way to pay for their orders, but can also save them money and send them notifications about special offers.

“For every dollar you spend, you get three bonus points,” she said. “That leads you to a free drink. You can get to those free drinks pretty quickly. You will also receive a free birthday drink. Our app users receive special announcements that other customers don’t see through a notification on their phone. In Drive-Thru it is much faster to be able to pay with the app.”

Keri added that the ability to pre-order is coming to the app in about a month.
