Registration open for Ultrahack drone match

Register now for the Ultrahack Drone Tournament: a competition to promote the use of drone technology, supported for the first time by 5G networks and satellite technology! The final of the Ultrahack drone tournament coincides with the Assembly Summer ’21 Fall Edition event in beautiful Helsinki, Finland. (Check out the official drone tournament site.)

Teams will come together to solve key drone usage challenges by leveraging a wide range of navigation and sensor technologies. “These challenges relate in particular to equipment landing and precision flight in various demanding and changing environments,” the competition announcement said.

Stara, the seat of the City of Helsinki, presents a challenge to its competitors, which involves solving an urgent delivery in a simulated manner using Stara’s own system and supply chain. The challenge includes all steps from ordering to the successful delivery of a product by drone to a construction site in an urban environment.

Stara offers everything that belongs to a well-functioning city. In the Last Mile Logistics Challenge, the city is looking for a demonstration of a working model to deliver a critical component on demand to a construction site. “In the best case scenario, such a solution could be used even more broadly in service production for the city of Helsinki,” the announcement said.

“Stara would like to serve as a development platform for the development of business services, as we are looking for solutions for the daily requirements of our production,” says Sami Aherva, Head of Logistics at Stara.

In the other series of tournaments, participants will perform navigation and landing tasks that require precision. “These will take place at a sophisticated venue that will be built with satellite technology in conjunction with the closing event at Messukeskus in Helsinki,” the announcement said. “5G technology, on the other hand, is used to enable navigation and enable the transmission of video material in the challenge of performing fast flight missions with no direct line of sight to the drone.”

“We have been researching the development of safe drone transport in Finland for two years. This competition is an excellent example of what drones can actually do today, ”says Arttu Rantala, Development Manager at Telia.

Rantala is particularly pleased about the use of the 5G network when using drones. “This is a great place to test the use of short delays in a very demanding environment. I believe that in October we can take a big step towards safe drone transport, ”says Rantala.
