Mobility scooter stolen from aged lady in Taunton

An elderly woman says she has been left shaking after her mobility scooter was stolen from her home in Taunton.

Dorothy Baker reported the theft to the police when she woke up to find the vehicle gone on Wednesday, May 25.

She told the County Gazette that somebody knocked on her door asking to buy the scooter a few weeks before.

She said: “A few weeks before it was stolen, we had a man come to the door asking to buy the scooter, at the time it seemed odd but we thought nothing of it. Perhaps he was finding out more about where it was kept .

“I keep the scooter chained up with the charging socket and everything was taken, the chain, the socket and the scooter.”

Mrs Baker said the scooter is her means of transport and is now stuck at home.

“After I had a stroke several years ago I sold my car and got a scooter as I needed a way to get around.

“Now that it has been stolen, I can’t get to the shops or even over to the park, it has really shaken me up.”

“Unfortunately I am not in a position to go and buy a brand new scooter so for now I don’t know what to do,” she said.

Mrs Baker said she is sharing this information to stop it from happening to anyone else.

“I just want people to be wary, I don’t want it to happen to anyone else,” she said.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said: “We can confirm we have had a report of a mobility scooter being reported stolen from a property in Cranmer Road, Taunton.

“It was reported to us by a third party on Wednesday 25 May and the theft is believed to have happened at some point between 10pm the night before and 7am that morning.

“Anyone who witnessed the theft, or has footage that may be able to assist an investigation, is asked to call 101 and give reference number 5222123445.”
