Mobility scooter hit by a pickup truck whereas crossing the motorway in Ladysmith

An elderly man was being hospitalized for injuries when his mobility scooter was hit by a pickup truck on the Trans-Canada Highway in Ladysmith on Thursday.

The incident occurred around 3 p.m. when the man was crossing the freeway from Ludlow Road to 1st Avenue. The pickup turned left onto the freeway from Ludlow.

The impact knocked the scooter over and sent the man onto the sidewalk.

“Both the scooter and the pickup were confiscated for further inspection,” said BC RCMP spokesman Cpl. Chris Manseau. “The scooter driver was taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment by BC Ambulance while the driver was fully involved in the investigation.”

All witnesses who have not yet spoken to the police are asked to call Ladysmith RCMP at 250-245-2215.
