is it value upgrading from Redmi 9?

Redmi 9 was Xiaomi’s best budget smartphone of 2020. The smartphone had quad cameras and Mediatek’s Helio G80 chipset for only 139 euros. Xiaomi is looking to build more on the powerful budget smartphone as the specs and renders of the upcoming Redmi 10 have been leaked. And as it stands, Redmi 10 will be a worthy upgrade over last year’s Redmi 9.

The smartphone was leaked by Singaporean retailer Courts (link now removed) and was discovered by Ishan Agarwal and Mukul Sharma. According to tipsters, Redmi 10 is powered by a MediaTek Helio G88 chipset. MediaTek Helio G88 was only launched a month ago. It is an octa-core chipset with two powerful A75 cores and six A55 cores. There’s no support for 5G though, which is a bit to be expected at this price point.

Externally, Redmi 10 in Redmi 9 will receive a significant upgrade compared to last year’s 6.53-inch LCD panel with 60 Hz. This year’s Redmi smartphone will have a 6.5-inch FHD + LCD screen with a refresh rate of 90 Hz. And as can be seen in the renderings, the design of the smartphone is higher quality than before.

In addition to the better internals and externals, the phone is said to come with a 50 MP main shooter. For comparison: Redmi 9 had a 13 MP main lens. Presumably this is the inexpensive JN1 50MP camera sensor that Samsung introduced at the beginning of the year. The rest of the three rear sensors are expected to be the same: one 8MP ultra-wide angle and two 2MP sensors for macro and portrait shots.

Redmi 10 is said to have, among other things, a Mali-G52 MC2 GPU, a 5,000 mAh battery and support for 18 W fast charging via cable. The phone can be available in three variants: 3 GB / 64 GB, 4 GB / 64 GB and 6 GB / 128 GB.

Nothing is known about the pricing yet. However, the high-end model (6GB / 128GB) was listed on Courts at a price of SGD 249, which is roughly $ 185 / € 159. The price of the entry-level variant is therefore likely to remain the same, i.e. around 139 euros.
