First @ 4: Medical Marijuana Guidelines for Faculties in South Dakota; Gunshots in an argument; Scooter proposal drawn

SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO) – Here’s a look at the top stories of the day from Monday 4 p.m.

Proposed rules for medical marijuana in K-12 schools in South Dakota were rejected Monday because they would apply to all accredited public and private schools.

The legislator Rules Audit Committee decided the proposed rules should not take effect because the package would go too far.

The committee decided after 75 minutes to send them back to the state Education Committee Standards and the South Dakota Department of Education for further work.

Active coronavirus cases have declined, according to the latest update from the South Dakota Department of Health.

Active cases are now at 242, less than on Friday.

No new deaths were reported. The death toll remains at 2,022.

Sioux Falls police said a person fired a gun at people in a vehicle during an argument that escalated early Monday morning.

No one was hit by the gunfire, but there were minor injuries from broken glass, police say. Several vehicles were damaged by the gunfire.

The people involved were known to each other.

There will be no motorized scooters in downtown Sioux Falls this summer. The regulation was withdrawn by the sponsor.

The sponsor says the process will be slowed down until state law could be changed to allow scooters to be used on roads.
