The fear of using fuels for public transport is increasing when it comes to two-wheeler sales and is showing more momentum in the electric scooter segment

Even though the two-wheeler segment has seen positive sales in recent months, the demand for electric two-wheelers is attracting particular attention. In the 2020 calendar year, a period that many have seen with great frustration due to the COVID-19 pandemic, sales of two-wheelers rose sharply.

The electric two-wheelers were more in demand, especially given the many advantages they offer. Last year around 27,260 electric two-wheelers were registered in the country.

Hero Electric commands 30.3% market share

Hero Electric is India’s largest river Two-wheel manufacturer for 2020 with a market share of 30.3 percent and sales of 8,252 units. It is primarily intended for B2B operations and with a range of 130 km on a single charge, it can even be used for personal use.

In third place were Ampere vehicles with 4,521 units sold last year and a current market share of 16.6 percent. The Ampere electric scooter range includes the Reo (Rs. 43,490), V48 (Rs. 37,390) Zeal (Rs. 68,799), AmpereV48 (Rs. 37,390) and Magnus (Rs. 73,990) models.

Ather energy Sales of electric scooters also rose last year, with 3,025 units sold and a market share of 11.2 percent. Ather recently opened a new showroom in Mumbai and announced that it will expand the range of its 450X e-scooter to 20 cities by the first quarter of 2021.

Bajaj has also noticed an increased demand for his Chetak e-scooter. Last year sales amounted to 1,243 units. Now the company opens sales in 24 new cities in Fiscal 22 after being limited to just Pune and Bangalore. The pandemic situation had led to restrictions in the supply of battery cells, as these are obtained from Wuhan, China. Last month, December 2020, 0 units of Chetak were produced. Chetak wholesale was 1,337 units in 2020.

The e-scooter manufacturers PURE EV (718) and Benling EV (552) also contributed some figures last year. Jitendra New EV was in 9th place with 434 two-wheelers sold, followed by TVS in 10th place. TVS registered 232 units of its iQube electric scooter in 2020, while wholesale sales were 290 units. The TVS e-scooter is only available for sale in Bangalore.
