Scooters And One Wheels

Clifton lady says the “harmful” scooter broke in half whereas driving

One woman says an electric scooter she was driving fell apart when she hit a tram in Clifton.

Emily Smith, a legal receptionist who lives on the property, said she was “shocked and saddened” when the handlebars and handlebars on the foot of the scooter fell off.

Nottingham is one of three cities where the bright yellow wind scooters are being tested, and while they have been largely successful, some drivers have raised a number of concerns.

These concerns include people driving drunk and scooters being left on sidewalks blocking the path for people with disabilities and strollers.

Now, Ms. Smith, 25, believes that more should be done to investigate whether they are structurally safe.

She told Nottinghamshire Live, “I just rode it and felt the handlebar go and then it broke in half.

“They’re fun, but they can be dangerous.

“I had to drag it back to the parking lot so I wouldn’t be fined. I was driving pretty fast when it started to feel like something was wrong and I thought I need to turn this off.

“I was so upset. I don’t want people to see this and never ride it, but I think it needs more research to make sure they are safe.”

Ms. Smith says she hopes this is done so that people can continue to enjoy the “thrilling and exhilarating” experience without the handlebars suddenly falling off.

Adults in Nottingham are the least familiar with the rules for electric scooters, according to a new survey commissioned by Major Trauma Group.

Wind therefore seeks to continuously educate drivers about the rules, including the fact that they are classified as Motor Vehicles (PLEVs) and are therefore subject to the same legal requirements.

Drivers must be over the age of 16, have a full UK Provisional License and are not allowed to drive on footpaths.

Helmets are recommended but are not required by law.

A Wind spokesman added, “The safety of our drivers is our top priority.

“With more and more scooters being used on the streets of Nottingham, we have seen a few isolated cases of vehicles damaged by improper handling.

“We always pick up damaged scooters immediately and have recently deployed additional patrols and maintenance personnel to regularly check our vehicles for damage.

“We are also working with local law enforcement agencies to uncover misuse of our scooters.”
