Apple MagSafe Battery Pack can cost your AirPods

Apple’s MagSafe Battery Pack was announced last week and is now available in most Apple stores. Previously, there were some rumors that the battery would support reverse wireless charging, as well as the ability to support AirPods and other accessories, but it hasn’t been confirmed until now.

Steven Russell shared some pictures on Twitter after buying the new MagSafe Battery Pack at a local Apple store over the weekend. The pictures provided help us take a closer look at the dimensions and how thick it really is when plugged into an iPhone or AirPod. He also confirmed that AirPods can actually be charged wirelessly with the new MagSafe Battery Pack.

This is not really surprising as Apple has even hinted that this new battery powered Qi wireless charger will support features like this, compatibility was previously unknown. Due to the fact that it supports the Qi standard, any compatible device should be charged with the accessory, although charging may be limited to the minimum charging speeds.

One more thing to add. I was asked if it would wirelessly charge AirPods. Answer seems to be yes.

Other images uploaded by Russell show the dimensions and software features of the battery. He also shows us how the battery widget shows the accessory while it is charging the device or connected on iOS 14.7 and 14.6.

This doesn’t apply to most people, but cool to note. iOS 14.7 (right) adds support for the battery. The usage on 6/14 (left) showed a different icon in the battery widget (/ mr)

The battery is even compared to a recently released Mophie battery. Russel confirmed that both accessories are the same thickness, but the Mophie battery is a bit bigger and a bit wider compared to MagSafe.

Size comparison with the recently released Mophie battery pack. Both are equally thick.
It is important to note that the Mophie package is charged via USB-C. (/ mr)
