Xiaomi Redmi Word 10 Professional first recording: 108MP digital camera, 120Hz show and 5,020 mAh battery score

Last year, Redmi phones took two of the top six best-selling phones, so the Redmi brand does well outside of the US. As technology advances, cheaper phones become more powerful, and people are finding that they can easily get their jobs done without spending $ 1000 on a phone.

In the last few weeks we have tested the new Redmi Note 10 Pro in Onyx Gray with 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. This phone doesn’t support 5G so it worked as intended over LTE on T-Mobile here in the US. There are many high-end specs in this phone, with an emphasis on the advanced 108 megapixel rear camera with 9-in-1 pixel binning and dual native ISO technologies.

hardware

The 6.67-inch AMOLED display looks great, and with the very small, upward-facing front camera in the center, I enjoyed watching videos on the screen. The bezels on all four sides are pretty even.

A headset loudspeaker is located in a small slot above the display. Two stereo speakers are on either end of the phone and they sound great. The speakers were pretty loud and I enjoyed the media experience without the headphones.

Top ZDNET reviews

An IR port, microphone, speaker, and 3.5mm audio port are on the top, while a microphone, speaker, and USB-C port are on the bottom. The top and bottom have flat surfaces with a matte finish. On the right side, in the upper half of this side, there is a power switch with an integrated fingerprint sensor and a volume button. At the top left there is a long compartment with a microSD card and two SIM card holders.

At the top left on the back there are four cameras with a small LED light under the cameras. The back has a gradient scheme with the onyx gray transitioning from gray to black. The back has a glossy finish and lies smoothly in the hand.

The Redmi Note 10 Pro is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 732G processor, and in my week of testing I never saw it stutter or lag. I’ve used it with typical everyday apps, watched movies, played music, and enjoyed some games.

software

The Redmi Note 10 Pro came with Android 11 and the Android security patch dated January 1, 2021. MiUI Global 12.0.1 is the UI used by Xiaomi but it offers a pretty rich Android experience. Most of the UI customization is done in some settings, additional utilities (Mi Video, Music, Mi Remote, and Mi Browser), and the organization of the app launcher.

There is a setting area for specific functions including Game Turbo, Video Toolbox, Floating Window, Second Space and Lite mode. There’s a cool Quick Ball item that lets you choose five shortcuts that appear when you swipe from either side of the phone. It’s similar to the Edge panels we see on Samsung devices, but I found it to be a great way to quickly take screenshots.

The Second Storage Space option and Enterprise Mode provide several methods of creating safe areas or storage spaces on your phone to separate your work from other data.

The start screen supports a Google Discover control panel on the far left with the option of the app launcher also being displayed in a drawer.

In addition to the 108MP camera hardware and other cameras, the Redmi Note 10 Pro includes advanced camera software with a variety of recording modes. These include 108 MP with pixel binning, video, photo, portrait, clone, long exposure (moving crowd, neon trails, oil painting, light painting, starry sky, star trails), night, panorama, documents, vlog, slow motion, time lapse, dual video, short Video and Pro / Manual. With solid camera hardware and software, you can get creative and spend a lot of time using this phone. The 5,020 mAh battery ensures that you can take pictures all day long.

Usage experiences and thoughts

I put in my T-Mobile SIM card and used the phone as a daily driver for a few days. It worked perfectly with calls, messages, and everyday apps like Gmail, Teams, and Outlook. The phone supports LTE, but I didn’t get a chance to travel too far to fully test the coverage.

The 108 megapixel camera is one of the main features of the Redmi Note 10 Pro. So, I took photos with the S21 Ultra and the iPhone 12 Pro Max to see how well they compared. While my results didn’t show that the Note 10 Pro outperformed these two flagship phones, the phone exceeded my expectations and has plenty of creative shooting options too.

The phone has a very large capacity battery and I was able to easily use the phone for two days between charging sessions. Also, I was able to walk in the drizzle with the phone as it has IP53 dust / water resistance.

Prices and availability will be announced during the livestream kick-off event.
