SAN ANTONIO – A family’s New Years Eve party took a frightening turn on Thursday night on the south side of San Antonio when a 14-year-old girl was hit by a car.
San Antonio police said the girl’s family followed the driver before officers arrived.
The incident occurred around midnight, when fireworks and other celebrations were taking place across town. Police were called to a house on the south side after the girl who rode a scooter was hit by a car.
Police said the driver who hit the girl started after the accident. Several family members followed him and held the man who the police said was in his twenties or thirties.
The child was taken to hospital and kept in stable condition.
Police said the man was slightly injured in the altercation and was charged with DWI and failure to stop and provide assistance.
