It is rumored that Samsung has been working on a new object tracker for some time. Lately we’ve come across leaked images and some government certifications of an object tracker named by Samsung Galaxy SmartTag. While their existence was certain, a launch schedule has so far been a mystery. Like a pair of fresh leaks Samsung’s Tile-like Object Tracker will be unveiled at the next Galaxy Unpacked event on January 14th alongside the Galaxy S21 series and the noise-canceling Galaxy Buds Pro.
Galaxy SmartTag is offered as a pre-order giveaway for the Galaxy S21
Leakster Evan Blass tweeted a picture from an advertising poster for the Galaxy S21 series. The picture suggests that those who pre-order the Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G will get the upcoming Galaxy Buds Pro true wireless earbuds and the Galaxy Smart Tag tracker (stylized as SmartTag) as freebies. The leaked poster also gives us a first clear look at the design of Samsung’s object tracker.

Another leak has detailed the pre-order offers. Samsung will likely reward pre-orders for the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S21 + with a Galaxy Buds Live and its Galaxy SmartTag item tracking device. For the Galaxy S21 Ultra, pre-orders for the expensive device with the new Galaxy Buds Pro earphones and the tracker will be delivered as a promotional gift.

Recently, a Samsung device named “Galaxy Smart Tag” and model number “EI-T5300” was approved in Indonesia. In addition, the Galaxy SmartTag was discovered in Taiwan’s NCC’s certification database, which also gave us a first look at the tracking device. However, details such as specifications and functions of the Galaxy SmartTag are not yet known The upcoming accessory from Samsung is likely to be a bluetooth based tracker.
Samsung could equip the Galaxy SmartTag with UWB technology
However, Samsung recently indicated that it will roll out UWB (Ultra Wideband) technology to more devices and one of them could very well be the object tracker. “We’re also making it easier to find the most important things quickly, from your keys to your wallet – even your pet,” wrote TM Roh, president and head of mobile communications for Samsung Electronics, last blog post for this month.
