Himanta Biswa Sarma, Minister of Education of Assam, presented the budget on the second day of the three-day session of the State Assembly on February 12th.
Regarding the distribution of the scooters to students, Sarma said 23,245 students have received scooters to date and another 15,000 students will receive them in the near future.
He announced that the second phase of distributing these scooters to the 2018-19 and 2019-20 batch students will begin on February 17th.
When Sharma tabled the April-July 2021 vote in the State Assembly on Friday, Sharma announced that the state granted free admission to 17,84,790 students last year.
“1,08,00,914 students were eligible for free education. 33,000 new teachers were hired and 29,000 posts were provincialized,” he said.
