The following is a DJI press release.
DJI Air 2S reports incredible image quality with unmatched flight performance
Added obstacle sensors improve autonomous flying, while the 1-inch sensor offers 20-megapixel photos and 5.4K videos
April 15, 2021 – DJI, the world’s leading provider of civil drones and creative camera technology, is today setting new standards for high-quality flight performance and incredible images with the new DJI Air 2S. This portable camera drone is an all-in-one solution that offers robust flight performance, state-of-the-art camera upgrades and high quality preprogrammed content creation tools.
“Every developer remembers what it felt like to fly a drone for the first time, and they will feel the same sense of wonder and opportunity the first time they experience DJI Air’s unparalleled blend of amazing flight ability and stunning image quality 2S experienced “, said Ferdinand Wolf, Creative Director of DJI Europe. “DJI Air 2S is a wish list for anyone who wants more from a drone. It shows upgrades that make the system an extremely versatile drone. From content creators to drone enthusiasts and travelers, we are confident that many people will be amazed by this drone. “
The DJI Air 2S is the first drone of its size to record 20-megapixel still images or 5.4 KB video with a new 1-inch sensor previously only available on larger, less agile drones. DJI continues to make it easy to create imaginative content with the new MasterShots feature. This advanced feature uses automatic flight path planning to set the drone’s course while recording video. After the flight is complete, DJI Air 2S automatically merges the footage under a theme to create an eye-catching video.
Thanks to the DJI Air 2S’s maximum flight time of 31 minutes and four-way directional obstacle sensors, the pilot can concentrate on the shot, while the drone’s security systems warn the drone when obstacles are approaching. APAS 4.0 is the most advanced autopilot system on any DJI drone and seamlessly maneuvers around objects autonomously when switched on. O3, DJI’s third iteration of OcuSync, brings the most reliable transmission technology in the drone market to this portable, foldable drone, so users know that their connection is stable. The updated FocusTrack mode includes a number of programmed modes such as Spotlight 2.0, ActiveTrack 4.0, and Point of Interest 3.0 that easily mimic the focus, control, and movement of a professional video operator.
An all-in-one tool for all of your content capture needs
Expand your creative vision and capture high-quality footage with a new 1-inch sensor that can capture still images at 20 megapixels, 5.4 KB video at 30 frames per second, or 4 KB at 60 frames per second and 150 Mbps . The 1-inch sensor is larger than the sensor on the original Mavic Air 2 and has a larger pixel size of 2.4 μm, which captures more information and detail for better photos and videos. Get closer to the subject without moving the drone with a new digital zoom, the 4x zoom at 4K 30fps, 6X at 2.7K 30fps, 4X at 2.7K 60fps, 6X at 1080P 60fps and 8X at 1080P 30fps supported. DJI’s well-known three-axis mechanical gimbal smooths the footage for professional quality, and 8GB of internal storage has been added. Depending on their preferences for image details and storage capacity, users can record between H264 and H265 and choose between three video color profiles: Normal (8 bit), D-Log (10 bit) or HLG (10 bit) to suit their video needs.
In addition to the standard photo options such as Timed Photo, AEB and Panoramas, the DJI Air 2S SmartPhoto mode records 20-megapixel photos with advanced scene analysis and in-depth learning to automatically select the best three options that give you the most visually appealing image receive. including HDR, Hyperlight and scene detection. In the HDR modes, several images are merged into a lively scene, while Hyperlight was developed for scenarios with poor lighting conditions. Scene detection can identify several general settings and adjust camera settings to capture photos that are bursting.
Pre-programmed modes for pro-level footage
The DJI Air 2S has the best-programmed flight modes and image capture modes of any DJI drone of this size. These creative options include:
- MasterShots: Professional aerial photography has never been easier. After activating MasterShots, the drone autonomously plans a flight path, selects from three different image capture modes, including proximity, portrait or landscape, and starts recording classic aerial photographs. Pilots can choose different themes and the DJI Fly app generates a unique video ready to be shared with the world.
- FocusTrack: Focus on the scene and let DJI Air 2S do the hard work for you. Select your subject by drawing a square around it on your mobile device, then choose an autonomous trajectory around the subject from Point of Interest 3.0. ActiveTrack 4.0, a tool that seamlessly tracks the subject and keeps it in place; or Spotlight 2.0, in which the drone movement is controlled by the pilot while the subject is locked in the frame.
- QuickShots: QuickShot modes are an important DJI feature and include Rocket, Circle, Dronie, Helix, Boomerang, and Asteroid.
- Hyperlapse: With the Hyperlapse option in a resolution of up to 4K you can accelerate the world from the air and see it in motion. Content captured in 4K resolution and lower can apply digital stabilization for an extra layer of smoothness.
Safe and intuitive flight operations in an ultra-portable drone
DJI Air 2S uses four high quality antennas and the latest version of the OcuSync transmission technology O3 developed by DJI to deliver a stable feed at a maximum distance of 12 kmeven in areas with a high number of signals. A maximum of 31 minutes in the air gives pilots more time to capture visually pleasing footage, while four-way sensors reduce the risk of collision. The newly upgraded front, rear, lower and upper obstacle sensors have binocular zoom technology to help identify incoming objects faster from a greater distance.
DJI Air 2S uses the latest and most advanced version of the Advanced Pilot Assistance System (APAS) 4.0, which allows the drone to autonomously and seamlessly maneuver around, under and over obstacles. While flying at normal speed, the newly improved APAS 4.0 offers a larger field of view to recognize obstacles compared to previous versions. When pilots are flying at higher speeds, as the angle of the drone is more tilted forward and the newly added upward obstacle sensor plays a crucial role in helping obstacle detection. As with DJI’s latest drone models, the DJI Air 2S’s AirSense system warns drone pilots of nearby planes and helicopters broadcasting ADS-B signals so that the drone can be quickly moved to a safer location. Other standard DJI security features of the DJI Air 2S are an improved Return-To-Home (RTH) function, with which a drone can be brought back to its starting point if it loses contact with the controller or reaches a critically low battery level, as well as the GEO 2.0 geofencing system, which informs pilots about sensitive locations and helps them to automatically stay away from risk areas such as airports. DJI Air 2S uses the latest version of the DJI Fly app, which has a wealth of educational information and tutorials to get new pilots in the air quickly.
