Teledyne acquires thermal imaging options from FLIR

Teledyne to acquire FLIR for $ 8.2 billion and rename FLIR thermal imaging solutions to Teledyne FLIR.

Teledyne Technologies (NASDAQ: TDY) announced just this week that the acquisition of FLIR (NASDAQ: FLIR) had completed, disclosed the details of the transaction in a press release and provided media sources with the new Teledyne FLIR logo.

In the drone industry, FLIR has held an important position as a provider of thermal imaging sensors and solutions. FLIR thermal imaging sensors have become essential tools for public safety, search and rescue, inspections, and more. In recent years, FLIR has expanded into drone hardware and acquired drone manufacturers Aeryon and Altavian, enabling FLIR to offer complete solutions for defense and commercial customers.

The FLIR drone team has made a significant contribution to the drone industry. Randall Warnas (now CEO of Autel Robotics) and Brett Kanda (now VP of Sales and Marketing at BRINC Drones) were well-known ambassadors for FLIR sensors, held open forums for the drone industry throughout the pandemic, and did educational and public relations work to help strengthen the commercial drone industry.

The business of FLIR, including the drone business, will now be led by Teledyne manager Edwin Roks, according to the Teledyn press release.

At the same time, Teledyne announced the following executive promotions, effective today. Edwin Roks, current Vice President of Teledyne and President of Teledyne’s Digital Imaging segment, is now Executive Vice President of Teledyne. Edwin will continue to serve as President of Teledyne’s Digital Imaging segment, which now includes Teledyne FLIR. Todd Booth will also be promoted to Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for the acquired Teledyne FLIR group of companies.

“We appreciate the support of our shareholders and I am excited to welcome FLIR to the Teledyne family,” said Robert Mehrabian, Teledyne’s Executive Chairman. “As a combined company, Teledyne FLIR will uniquely offer a full range of imaging technologies and products, from X-ray to infrared and from components to complete imaging systems. Teledyne FLIR will also offer a full range of unmanned systems and imaging payloads in all areas from deep sea to space. Finally, I would like to congratulate Edwin and Todd, whose promotions are well deserved. “
