Subsequent yr’s iPhone SE might be the most cost effective 5G iPhone ever

Apple launched the original iPhone SE back in March 2016, and it was one of the best alternatives for anyone trying to get a new iPhone without breaking the bank. Since then, we’ve had to wait a little more than four years for the latest variant to hit the market in April 2020. However, the success of this final iteration may have motivated Apple to refresh us faster than expected.

According to Ming-Chi Kuo, Apple could plan to give us an iPhone SE refresh in the first half of 2022. Don’t expect many changes though, as he also mentions that this new device would roughly match the current model, which follows the design language of the iPhone 8. Still, the new 2022 iPhone SE is believed to support 5G and a new processor under the hood. Just don’t expect anything crazy as Apple may hit the market as the cheapest 5G iPhone ever, currently held by the iPhone 12 mini. So we could expect the new SE to sell for less than the starting price of $ 699, the iPhone 12 mini.

Rumors also suggest that we may get a new iPhone SE Plus that could come with a larger display and a Touch ID sensor embedded in the phone’s power button, as we see on the current iPad Air . However, Ming-Chi Kuo doesn’t mention this new device in his latest note, so we’re not sure if Apple has abandoned this model or if we will get it in the future. Anyway, we expect the new iPhone SE to make its debut during a spring event.

The last Spring Loaded event brought us some new devices. Failing that, we will likely have to wait until later to see a 2022 SE as Apple has once again confirmed that it will only talk about software during WWDC as we didn’t get the new 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro models we’ve been waiting for. Kuo also said that Apple is working on a new version of the iPhone 11 that will come with a 6-inch LCD display, Face ID, and 5G, but we’ll have to wait until 2023 to see when it will also become part of could be the iPhone SE family.
