Sony is ready to start its smartphone launch cycle for 2021. The company has tacitly updated the banner of its official Sony Xperia YouTube channel There will be an announcement of new products on April 14th. The kick-off event, first spotted by the folks at DroidLife, starts at 9:30 a.m. CEST, which means you will likely have to wake up a little early to tune in. So what products does Sony have? the bags? Well, the most likely candidate would be a new flagship, like the company last A high-end phone was launched on the market as early as February 2020.
However, leaks may have already spoiled the surprise element. Let’s start with the name – Sony Xperia 1 III. The device has already appeared online in some cute high-resolution renders, and its key specs were released earlier this week. Not much has changed in the aesthetics department. You get a familiar glass-to-metal design with a high aspect ratio of 21: 9, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, and bezels on the top and bottom. No fancy hole punch or notch here!

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 ensures that everything runs inside, paired with up to 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of onboard storage. A beautiful 4K HDR OLED panel with a refresh rate of 120 Hz takes care of your multimedia needs, while a 5,000 mAh battery supports 65 W fast charging keeps the light on. The camera department gives you a 64-megapixel main shooter, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle snapper, and a 12-megapixel telephoto-style periscope-style camera with 60x zoom.
In the past few weeks, several other upcoming Sony phones have also received the leak treatment. As early as January of this year, renders of an iPhone 12 Mini-like phone called the Sony Xperia Compact surfaced online. A few days earlier, renderers from a midrange phone called the Xperia 10 III also hit the Internet. However, it is unclear whether any of these phones will debut on April 14th.

I’m definitely excited to see what Sony brings to the table in 2021, but I’m also a little cautious. The Sony Xperia 1 II was announced in February 2020, but it took a few months for it to become generally available, and only in a few markets. The Xperia PRO 5G was also launched on the same day as the Xperia 1 II, but only the device went on sale for a staggering $ 2,500 this January. Let’s hope that the same fate does not meet with the Xperia 1 III!
