Scooter rider struck and killed by pickup truck recognized by cops

Jackson police on Tuesday identified the 81-year-old man aboard a mobility scooter struck and killed by a pickup truck.

Arthur Hanig was hit near the corner of Jackson Mills Road and Harmony Road around 9:25 pm Monday, Jackson police said.

Hanig, of Jackson, was pronounced dead at the scene

Police noted the area is dimly lit and Hanig was wearing dark clothing.

“The scooter did have some reflective stickers on it but was not equipped with any functioning lights,” police said.

The 64-year-old man driving the pickup truck was not impaired, according to police. No charges have been filed as of Tuesday morning, Capt. Steve Laskiewicz said.
