Scoot over: Beloit points e-scooter regulation | Enterprise information

BELOIT – An ordinance regulating the future use of electric scooters was recently approved by Beloit City Council.

So far there have been no regulations in the city for the operation of electric scooters or the short-term rental of scooters.

“Given the potential for a variety of problems that can arise from short-term commercial rental of scooters, the staff felt it was in the best interests of the city to establish a regulatory framework for the operation of such a company,” wrote the city staff to the council.

City officials have confirmed to Beloit Daily News that an unspecified company has contacted the city about setting up a business in the area, citing Beloit’s growing tourist scene and downtown attractions.

The ordinance establishes a regulatory framework designed to help guide such usage in the city and solve many of the logistical problems faced with electric scooter use and shared scooter operation in other communities.

The fees listed in the regulation include an annual fee of $ 300 per application plus $ 10 per scooter. Fees also include a scooter relocation and incident fee of $ 50.
