San Antonio teen shot within the leg whereas using an e-scooter

We knew that driving e-scooters could be dangerous … but not that dangerous. According to San Antonio police, a 16-year-old boy was riding an electric scooter with a friend at around 1:45 a.m. on Monday, June 1, when he felt something hit his lower leg. He thought it was glass, sat down at a picnic table in front of the V Lounge at 107 E. Martin St. and called emergency services. The officers later determined that the victim had actually been shot and found additional bullet holes in the windows of the V Lounge. The victim was transported to San Antonio Medical Center with non-threatening injuries, and SAPD says the suspect is unknown.

Jake Ehlinger honored by Texas lawmakers

The Texas 2021 legislative session was a wild ride, but it ended on a sweet note. Senator Sarah Eckhardt (D-Austin) tabled a resolution in honor of Jake Ehlinger, the second UT football player to be found dead in Austin last month. Senate Resolution 500 honors and commemorates the life of Jacob McAdams Ehlinger, who grew up in Westlake, just a few miles from the Capitol. “Because Jake Ehlinger was an extraordinary young man whose indomitable will, his generous spirit and his enthusiasm to live to the fullest every day had a profound influence on everyone who had the privilege of being part of his life,” it says in of the resolution.

A daughter’s lifesaving job

When local Dora Farias began experiencing COVID-19 symptoms last July, they started with a slight runny nose. A few days later, however, Farias gasped. This story from the Express News tells how Farias’ life was saved by a respiratory therapist who happened to be her own daughter.

Search for man last seen at Canyon Lake continues

The search for a Houston man last seen at Canyon Lake is well on its fourth day. According to the New Braunfels Herald newspaper, authorities are still looking for Joel Jijo Puthenpuyaril, 22, who went missing on Saturday. Houston Police divers will assist the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department’s diving team in their search for his body from sunrise to sunset.
