Ring’s latest clever alarm sensor loves the sound of glass breaking

The ring belonging to Amazon loves to expand its wares as you know. At CES 2022, it unveiled a new sensor for homes where large windows or glass doors could be entry points for nasty criminals. And it works alongside the existing ring alarm system.

The £ 35 ring alarm glass break sensor can be placed in these areas – probably glass doors – and listens to the sound of broken glass.

Also, it doesn’t need to be installed anywhere, just needs to be placed near the glass. Ring says it can detect the glass noise from around 7 meters away (although we suspect this is more effective near it) and has built-in intelligence to tell when it’s actually being broken in rather than someone looking for the key downstairs is throwing or rattling plates around.

When the sound of breaking glass is detected, you will receive an alert on your Ring app. However, you can choose whether you want your Ring Alarm Siren or Alarm Outdoor Siren to sound, for example when you are in away mode.

The Ring Alarm Glass Break Sensor will be available from mid-February.

The Ring Alarm System comes with various extras depending on the size of your home and you can buy additional motion and contact sensors as well as an outdoor siren. The basic set includes a base station, a keyboard, a contact sensor, a motion detector and a range extender.

You can of course combine it with your other Ring products, although as with all Ring products, you have to pay a monthly subscription to keep it useful.
