OnePlus Nord N10 5G, the budget phone from OnePlus, now receives support for Amazon Alexa for hands-free calling in Europe. You can get rid of Google Assistant entirely and set Amazon Alexa as your default voice assistant like pretty much any modern Android phone. However, the experience won’t be as smooth as it is on Google.
The latest development comes from XDA developers who quote a tipster who received an email from Amazon UK that their OnePlus Nord N10 5G now has this feature. Although the device is still not in the list of built-in compatible Alexa phones from Amazon UK, OnePlus has confirmed to the publication that the feature will in fact be rolled out for selected European markets. The OnePlus Nord N10 5G receives hands-free calling from Alexa in Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy and Spain, and the integration works for all EU N10 SKUs.
You don’t have to purchase your phone from the Amazon website for the new feature to work. For the unknown, the OnePlus Nord and OnePlus 8 series already have this function. You can trigger Alexa from any screen or when your phone’s screen is off, much like you can trigger Google Assistant by saying “OK Google” from any screen. To enable this feature, you need to go to Settings> Apps & Notifications> Default Apps> Digital Assistant App and select Alexa as the default app.
The OnePlus Nord N10 5G recently received the Android security patch for February 2021 with a new update. Improved 5G connection quality was achieved in some scenarios to provide a better and more stable network environment and the GMS package was updated until December 2020.
