OnePlus Joins Apple and Samsung in Sensible Tags Sport, Patent Discover

Recently, smartphone manufacturers have expanded their product offerings to cover a diverse range of products. Samsung introduced its item tracking device called SmartTags. Apple followed suit with the introduction of long-rumored AirTags. Now it looks like more and more companies are following in the footsteps of Samsung and Apple. After the two tech giants, OnePlus could be the first smartphone company to announce its own item tracker.

According to a report by Droidmaze (via GizmoChina), OnePlus has filed a patent for a device called OnePlusTags. The name itself seems pretty self-explanatory as it looks like the next smartphone vendor is getting into the item tracker segment. While the OnePlusTag listing doesn’t provide many details about the device, the upcoming item tracker will likely be a smart tag modeled on Apple and Samsung’s offerings.

It’s probably the most portable OnePlus device for consumers. We don’t have any official teasers or confirmations as to whether OnePlus is actually working on an AirTag rival. However, it seems like a sensible move. As of now, the company plans to launch its OnePlus Nord CE 5G, which will officially go on June 10th.

The Samsung SmartTag and Apple AirTag use innovative technology to keep track of the tagged items. The latter is essentially an extension of Apple’s Find My app. If you’ve misplaced your item and it’s within Bluetooth range, you can use the Find My app to play a sound from the AirTag to help you find it. The AirTag can also be put into lost mode and notified when it is in range or found by the huge Find My network. We can expect similar functions from OnePlusTag.
