The Google Pixel 3a is $ 146 -Dollars shipped at $ 333. The Sony Xperia 1 Mark 2, which I know a lot of you will love, is $ 101 less, so at 1098 it’s still pretty expensive. After all, Samsung’s perpetual trade-in offers are still available. So if you’re looking to buy the Galaxy S21 Ultra, it’s still available for $ 499 with $ 100 instant credit if you have an eligible device. Apple is cutting iPhone 12 Mini production due to far lower demand than expected
Let’s switch to reports and rumors before we get back to the hottest news, and this time it’s about iPhones. Earlier this year we had a report from DigiTimes claiming that Apple would cut mini production of the iPhone 13 due to low demand. IPhone 12 Mini sales were far lower than Apple originally expected, according to a new report from Nikkei Asia, prompting the company to cut orders for the Mini from its original plan for the first half of the year, as we heard earlier. The report mentions that some suppliers were even asked to stop building components specifically for the Mini. Apparently, Cupertino will reduce its planned production by more than 70%, at least for now. Even so, Apple reportedly plans to cut production on all models by 20%, so the Mini is taking a 50% cut, which is still huge. Many analysts claim the low sales are due to the iPhone 11 and 12 being similarly priced, offering larger displays and batteries for almost the same price. Let’s see what happens to the 2021 lineup if the Mini doesn’t pick up the rest of the year.
The ASUS ROG Phone 5 Ultimate has more RAM than my gaming PC
Alright though, let’s get back to the official news as we just got the ROG Phone 5 series and it sounds great but I’m not sure what it looks like. Well, it sounds like Michael Fisher showed me his Ultimate device yesterday, and while he loves it, he struggles not to assume it’s a broken-back white phone. The company took the virtual stage and introduced three new gaming smartphones, the ROG Phone 5, the 5 Pro and the 5 Ultimate. Of course, we’re focusing on the Ultimate here, which features a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with 144 Hz and 300 Hz touch sampling. I know it is powered by the Snapdragon 888 SoC with 18 GB of RAM. 18 GB of RAM, half a terabyte of non-expandable memory that supports external hard drives via NTFS, and a massive 6000 mAh battery. I mean, these numbers sound almost illegal in certain countries. That said, damn it, Asus is NOT messing around. When it comes to the cameras, you get a 64-megapixel main sensor from Sony, a 13-megapixel ultra-wide sensor, and I don’t even know why they bother with the 5-megapixel macro. The phone still has the air triggers on top. The high-end models also have additional buttons, and you can still buy the gaming pad separately. The basic model for the ROG Phone 5 costs 800 euros, the Rog Phone 5 Pro 1200 euros and the Ultimate 1300 euros. Apple AirPods 3 alleged first look is here
Apple AirPods 3 appear in supposedly real pictures. Look here!
Let’s put the spotlight on Apple again, but not for the products you would expect, let’s talk about AirPods. We’ve been waiting for the third generation AirPods for a while, and rumors suggest we might get them at Apple’s upcoming March event. Now we have a new report from Gizmochina showing some renders of the AirPods 3 that seem to have been based on pictures from suppliers. You can tell from the renders the shorter stem and vents at the top, which have a lot of resemblance to the current AirPods Pro, but without the silicone tips. The case also shrinks a bit and becomes wider. We also have some IRL pics of these headphones from a tipster on Twitter that, while not the best track record, look like the real thing. So yes, these pretty much become AirPods Pro in design, but lack the actual Pro features like Active Noise Canceling. We expect this again at the March event, which is supposedly 13 days away. So we’ll keep you updated if we get any more leaks.
OnePlus confirms a 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera for the upcoming flagship
Pete Lau teases the OnePlus 9 Pro’s underwater camera capabilities
And finally, for today’s hottest news, let’s talk about OnePlus as it managed to take a big chunk of the spotlight today, which makes sense as we get closer to the OnePlus 9 event. Pete Lau has been on some sort of Ming Chi Kuo run for the past few days, except what he says are not predictions. First he announced that we would be getting a charger and now he confirmed that we will get a 50 megapixel ultra-wide camera for the 9 Pro with a Sony IMX766 sensor. He also showed some sample images that appear to have taken two extremely wide frames, and you can definitely see that the 9 Pro has a lot less distortion, but of course we’ll have to test that to see how accurate it is. With regard to this camera, MKBHD has now released an image of the new “Pro” UI, which is reportedly thanks to the Hasselblad partnership that teases the company. In this picture we can see how in Pro mode you can control shutter speed, ISO, focus and more. So we’re currently expecting three phones from OnePlus, the 9R, 9, and 9 Pro. The 9 Pro should contain a 6.78-inch display with 120 Hz, Snapdragon 888 5G, 8 or 12 GB of RAM and the typical amount of memory. With all of these teasers and leaks, they are heavily focused on the camera, where we should expect a 48-megapixel main sensor, this 50-megapixel ultra-wide, and two more cameras pending the leak.
