The number of deaths on the street is rising in New York City, and a Brooklyn legislature has a number of bills to address the problem.
State Senator Simcha Felder says there are too many operators of bicycles, scooters and e-bikes who snake their way into and out of traffic and drive through red traffic lights.
“Streets right now, every body does what it wants. It’s the wild wild west. I know that from the neighborhood here and see it. “
So he presented a package of bills. They would require operators of two-wheeled vehicles to take a road safety course, register their bikes and scooters, show a license plate and make helmets compulsory.
“We have to make sure they are safe, whether they want it or not.”
His bills include a $ 50 fine for those caught without a helmet.
