Mallorca electrical scooter consumer punished for pulling down an 80-year-old

The defendant received a fine of 360 euros.

On Monday, a court in Palma sentenced an electric scooter user to a fine 360 euros for knocking down an 80-year-old man in Palma in October 2018.

The incident took place on the bike path on Carrer Vicari Joaquim Ferrer. The defendant drove his scooter on a two-way lane with a top speed of 30 kilometers per hour. At a pedestrian crossing near the intersection with Carrer Gruta, he couldn’t slow down and met the 80-year-old who was knocked unconscious and suffered bruises on his elbow, foot and hand. Besides, his glasses were broken.

It took the man a month to fully recover. The prosecution initially had one four months imprisonment and compensation of 1,329 euros. Before the hearing, the defense and prosecution agreed on a fine of 360 euros for “slight negligence”. The compensation that the defendant had already paid was taken into account.
