Leica Q2 Daybreak is a £5550 compact digicam for Seal superfans

Are you a well-heeled photographer that has Kiss From a Rose on constant repeat? Seal fanatics will surely go (a little) crazy for Leica’s latest collab. The Leica Q2 Dawn was designed with help from the Grammy-award winning artist, who’s no stranger to a camera himself.

The fixed-lens, full-frame compact has been given a visual makeover that pays homage to Seal’s lyrics, while taking inspiration from “the golden glow of sunrise” and “the dance between light and shadow”. The camera body is wrapped in a Japanese fabric that blends gold washi paper and woven black thread. Seal’s signature and the edition number are engraved on the all-black body, with Leica’s signature red spot logo also recolored black to match.

It comes with a rope strap emblazoned with “you became the light on the dark side of me” on the leather handles, to compliment the camera’s color scheme.

As part of the special edition, customers also get a scarf developed by New York fashion house rag & bone, with Seal’s handwritten lyrics printed in gold on a black background. A white version will be sold separately, in case you really can’t get enough Seal-branded gear.

The Dawn is otherwise unchanged from the regular Leica Q2, with the same 47.3MP sensor and 28mm, F1.7 Summilux glass. It can snap 14-bit stills as DNG RAW or JPEG, and shoots 4K video at 30fps. Performance remains the same, as does the OLED viewfinder and 3in touchscreen LCD display.

Leica is marking the collaboration with an exhibition of Seal’s photography at its Los Angeles Gallery, which will be open until the end of October.

The Leica Q2 Dawn will be limited to 500 units worldwide, and available exclusively from Leica stores and the Leica website for £5550.
