It looks like Apple is finally ready to step into the hole cutout for the selfie camera ship. The report on the 2022 iPhone 14, which hits the market with a punch-hole cutout instead of a notch, isn’t new, but the new leak weighs in that it came from reliable Apple leaker Mark Gurman. In his latest issue of the Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman said that Apple would like to implement a pill-shaped punch-hole cutout for the front camera of the iPhone 14 Pro.

Currently, Face ID works in such a way that all the necessary sensors like a floodlight, a selfie camera and an IR blaster are housed in the notch. But it seems that Apple wants to get rid of the notch in the iPhone 14 series. It seems that Apple is trying to keep the Face ID sensors and not move on to the in-display fingerprint scanners. In order to retain the Face ID and enlarge the screen area, Apple would like to implement a pill-shaped cutout for the front camera and the Face ID sensors.

2022 M2 MacBook Air, Mac Pro, AR / VR headset, and more

In addition to further details on the upcoming iPhone 14 Pro, Gurman has also announced that Apple will be launching the MacBook Air 2022 with a new design and M2 chipset. He claims that the Apple M2 chipset will be “slightly faster” than the M1 chip with a similar 8-core CPU and 9-core or 10-core GPU. He also says Apple will also be releasing a new Mac Pro desktop with a 40-core CPU and 128-core GPU.

From what I hear the M2 will be a slightly faster version of the M1 chip by the end of 2020. I’d expect the same total number of CPU cores – four high-performance cores and four energy-efficient cores – but a bit more powerful GPU. That probably means nine or 10 GPU cores, an upgrade from the M1’s current seven or eight graphics core options. I would see the leap from the M1 to the M2 as a leap similar to the leap Apple makes annually on the iPhone.

The long-awaited mixed reality headset could hit the market later this year, according to Gurman. However, he warns that the timeframe for the product’s launch has previously been postponed and could be further delayed. Finally, Gurman adds that Apple will also be releasing a new Mac mini and a large-screen iMac Pro this year.
