A majority of retailers selling e-scooters in Greater Manchester inform their customers about legal restrictions, according to a new study.
The vehicles are classified as “motor transporters”, which means they are subject to the same restrictions as passenger cars.
They’ve grown in popularity in the UK in recent years, but some are unaware of the law that surrounds them.
40 Greater Manchester stores were visited by mystery shoppers and it was found that 75 per cent told shoppers it was illegal to drive on roads and pavements and they could only be used on private land.
Kevin Hargreaves, Highways Key Route Network Manager at Transport for Greater Manchester said: “As e-scooters continue to gain popularity, it is more important than ever that the people who buy them understand the laws that govern their use.
