Fotokite Tethered Drone wins the iF Design Award

The photo kite-connected drone for public safety received a top award at this year’s iF Design Award. “Out of almost 10,000 submissions, only 75 were awarded the Gold Award for outstanding design achievements by an international, independent jury of experts,” says a press release from the company.

Fotokite Sigma, the Fotokite-linked drone for public safety teams – offers mission-critical situational awareness with unlimited continuous flight time. This is a critical differentiator for public safety teams who may not be able to land and change batteries during an emergency event. The design of the Fotokite Sigma also allows it to take off, fly and land. “Team resources are saved with a single push of a button,” says the iF Design website. These are more important roles for public safety teams who need to focus on the situation in front of them.

The Fotokite solution includes the Fotokite Live app, which provides thermal and high-resolution real-time video streams both on-site and off-site and provides first-aiders and commanders off-site with instant actionable information throughout the mission. “Photo kite systems have saved lives several times during search, rescue and live fire missions,” says the company.

The Sigma photo kite was awarded the iF Gold Award in Design Excellence. The jury’s statement sums up the elegance of the Sigma solution:

“So simple and yet so exquisite in every detail. The entire user journey has been taken into account with ease of use clearly explained. Everything is well thought out here: the surface treatment, the materials, the components, the camera, the box, the interaction – everything. “
