An electric scooter company called “Bird” has started operations in Elkhart.
The Elkhart fleet consists of 50 e-scooters that can be rented for $ 1 to unlock and 39 cents per minute plus tax, according to 95.3 MNC reporting partners at The Elkhart Truth.
The scooters can reach speeds of 15 mph and can travel approximately 30 miles before needing to be charged.
Bird has a local manager who charges scooters daily and takes them to places where they’re most likely to be used, such as downtown.
There is also a Bird smartphone app that allows users to see where the nearest scooter is and how many miles are left on the battery.
