Driver accused of hitting a parking management scooter leads the police in pursuit

A driver accused of deliberately ridden on a parking attendant’s scooter in San Diego during an argument led police on a brief car chase Thursday, police said.

The driver’s red Dodge SUV hit the motorized scooter as it attempted to drive away on Island Avenue near 24th Street in Sherman Heights at around 10:15 a.m., police said.

The scooter was slightly damaged by the impact. The parking attendant was not injured.

Police were nearby trying to stop the SUV, but the driver, a man in his 50s, kept driving. He drove on East State Route 94 to southeastern San Diego, where he left on Kelton Road only to return to the freeway, this time heading west.

He drove to downtown San Diego, where officers stopped the vehicle in the Broadway area and 16th Street west of Interstate 5 with spiked streaks, police said.

The driver finally surrendered. He got out and walked backwards towards the officers with his hands up. He was arrested at around 10:35 am

Further information was not immediately available.
