Chicken Canada hosts e-scooter security occasion

WINDSOR, ONT. – Bird Canada is holding an e-scooter public safety demonstration in Windsor Thursday, two months after the company opened in the city.

Five hundred e-scooters are scattered around Windsor, and over 60,000 trips have been reported since Rose City was launched in May.

According to Bird Canada, the event aims to promote responsible driving of Bird’s shared e-scooters and teach attendees the basics of micromobility, including detailed information on how to properly drive and operate e-scooters.

The event also hopes to raise awareness of rules for respecting pedestrians, businesses and traffic.

Similar security events are planned for August and September, according to company officials.

The event runs until 2 p.m. on Civic Terrace, north of Riverside Drive, east of the Spirit of Windsor.

Free helmets will be given to those who successfully demonstrate safe driving practices at the event and are aware of the City of Windsor’s e-scooter guidelines.

100 electric bikes for Windsor’s Bird e-scooter fleet

“I think the passion we see in Windsor is above average, which is wonderful to see,” said Stewart Lyons, CEO of Bird Canada

The number of incidents of bad behavior in Windsor has decreased as people focus on learning how to use it, she says.

“One device for shopping, one device for going out with friends, one device for coming home,” adds Stewart. “Really an alternative means of transportation and that’s what it’s really about.”

Stewart says Bird Canada is almost ready to roll out 100 electric bikes in Windsor, telling CTV News that the COVID-19 pandemic has caused some shipping delays.

“The really cool thing is that Windsor will be the first market in Canada to get these e-bikes and our first market in Canada to have them and we will be very excited to be able to deliver them to the people of Windsor as soon as they are available are available. “
