If you’re wondering why there were some really great Sonos deals on Black Friday weekend, your answer may have just arrived thanks to an eagle-eyed Redditor seemingly revealing the existence of a new Sonos speaker.
The leak comes to us through Reddit user S114HED, who spied in the Quick Help section of the Sonos app a mention of the previously unknown Sonos Sub Mini for connecting a secondary sub to your audio setup.
Two key details are revealed in the screenshot made available to Reddit (below), starting with the design of the Sonos Sub Mini.
According to unconfirmed information, the speaker is said to be a “smaller, cylindrical subwoofer” that (presumably) sits under the larger, square Sonos Sub in the company’s actual line-up.
Second, the handle tells us that the Sub Mini unfortunately cannot be added as a second sub to a system that also has a full-fledged Sonos Sub.
This, in turn, seems to suggest that the Sub Mini could be a cheaper, standalone Sonos product, a bit like its Roam Bluetooth speaker – for those who want to improve the quality of their sound at home but aren’t necessarily ready to completely dive into the expensive world of a Sonos multiroom system.
One final intrigue is the fact that the 3rd generation Sonos Sub is still £ 80 cheaper at John Lewis among others. The Reddit linked to the leak speculates that the new Sonos Sub Mini speaker could hit the market at a price of $ 450 (~ $ 335) based on how Sonos normally aligns its prices with rival Bose .
Sonos has declined to comment on the leak to multiple media, so a release date for the Sonos Sub Mini cannot be confirmed.
With the world’s largest consumer electronics show, CES, in January 2022, however, we would be surprised that it was not broken by the end of the Las Vegas event at the latest.
