The AirPods really brought wireless earbuds into the mainstream, but their design hasn’t earned Apple much credit for their design. In fact, competing brands offer more compact options that look a lot less generic and sound decent too. It now appears that Apple is returning to the drawing board to do a design overhaul, but not for the AirPods family. Instead, Apple-owned Beats will take the lead here with their upcoming Beats Studio Buds TWS earphones These were just discovered in the code of a beta build for iOS 14.6.

The Beats Studio Buds animations, discovered by MacRumors collaborator Steve Moser, show a pair of compact earbuds with a much smaller profile than the AirPods or the Pro model. And luckily, there’s no ugly stem to be seen on Beats Studio Buds. The design corresponds to Samsung Galaxy Buds Pro, while the charging case has a pebble-like oval shape.

The folks at 9to5Mac worked out the mention of noise cancellation and put it in the same league as the AirPods Pro. And just like expensive Apple earbuds that do Beats Studio Buds will also be equipped with an in-house chip that enables quick pairing with an iPhone. In terms of color options, the Beats brand TWS (True Wireless Stereo) earbuds will be available in black, white and red finishes.

The charging case also rocks the same paint as the earbuds themselves. At the time of this writing, Beats has yet to tease all the upcoming wireless earbuds, but the discovery in the iOS 14.6 beta suggests an official debut is around the corner . The above update will be rolled out next month through the Stable Channel, which introduces Dolby Atmos support with Spatial Audio and lossless music playback through Apple Music. It is therefore likely that the Beats Studio Buds will arrive around the same time frame.
