Bajaj Auto announces the upcoming launch of the Chetak electric scooter in Nagpur via its social media account. Before its launch, prices for the electric scooter will be announced and start at Rs 1.49 lakh on the street.

Model-related prices

  • Urban: Rs 1.49 lakh

  • Premium: Rs 1.51 lakh

The exact start date will be announced and is expected to be announced in the coming days. However, interested customers can visit the brand’s website and register their interest in purchasing the Chetak electric scooter.

Aside from Nagpur, the company is also preparing to launch the scooter in Hyderabad and Chennai. The e-scooter is currently available in Pune, Mangalore, Bangalore, Mysore, Aurangabad and now Nagpur.

The electric scooters are sold exclusively through all KTM dealers in all cities and are also sold in the same way in the new and upcoming cities.

Specifications, range & charging

Speaking of the scooter itself: the Chetak is powered by a 4 kW electric motor paired with a 3 kWh lithium-ion battery. The electric drive train generates a maximum torque of 16 Nm and offers a maximum range of 95 km on a single charge.

The e-scooter is also equipped with fast charging technology. The company claims the scooter has enough juice to cover 25 km in an hour of charging.

Functions & mechanics

The Chetak features a retro design with contoured body panels in homage to the internal combustion engine scooters sold in the past. The features of the Chetak EV include:

  • Round LED headlights

  • Integrated DRLs

  • LED taillights & turn signals

  • Digital instrument clusters

  • Spring contact activated switches

  • Chrome strips around the headlight

In terms of mechanics, the scooter’s suspension tasks are handled by a unilateral tube suspension at the front and a mono-shock setup at the rear. The electric scooter brakes with a disc brake at the front and a drum brake at the rear.

The demand for electric scooters in India is growing rapidly in all segments. In addition, more brands in the country are introducing premium electric scooters such as OLA and Simple Energy. As a result, Bajaj plans to rapidly expand sales of Chetak across the country in the coming months.

The Chetak competes with the Ather 450X, TVS iQube and the upcoming OLA electric scooter and the Simple One in India.
