Bajaj Auto expects supply of the ‘Chetak’ electrical scooter in September qtr

Bajaj Auto expects to begin shipping its “Chetak” electric scooter in the second quarter of 2021-22 after stopping bookings in April this year, according to the company’s 2020-21 annual report.

The company has reintroduced its once popular Chetak scooter brand in an electric avatar that comes in two flavors – Chetak Premium and Chetak Urbane.

“When booking for the Chetak was first introduced in early 2020, it had to be stopped due to supply chain disruptions caused by COVID-19. Your company then reopened online bookings on April 13, 2021, but only had to stop 48 hours later.” , due to an overwhelming response, “said former Bajaj Auto Chairman Rahul Bajaj in his last address to shareholders.

Bajaj Auto said in the report that “it is expected to begin shipping this iconic model during the second quarter of FY2022”.

The company said the Chetak is powered by an IP67-rated high-tech lithium-ion battery that can be easily charged from a standard 5A power outlet. It can provide a journey of up to 95 km in “Eco mode” per full battery charge.

The electric scooter has an integrated intelligent battery management system that seamlessly controls charging and discharging.

It also offers a fully connected driving experience embedded in mobility solutions such as data communication, security and user authentication.

The Chetak mobile app gives drivers a comprehensive overview of all aspects of the vehicle and its driving history, the report says.

The new Chetak will be produced at Bajaj Auto’s Chakan plant in Pune.
