Azure drones for nuclear websites Skeyetech-DIZI

Azur Drones won an important award at the World Nuclear Exhibition (WNE). Just weeks after launch, Azure’s Skeyetech – DIZI, an autonomous radioactivity detection solution, was recognized as a groundbreaking drone for inspecting nuclear sites.

Radiation detection is an ideal application for autonomous drones: dangerous, expensive, and time consuming for humans, and critical to community safety and uninterrupted service. WNE Awards recognize the latest innovations in the industry: Azur’s new solution won first prize in the “Product and Service Innovations” category.

“The Skeyetech DIZI solution was developed in collaboration with AVNIR Energy and is the first scintillation detector that is integrated into an autonomous drone. This solution makes it possible to carry out radioactivity measurements at one location very quickly and automatically around the clock, ”said a press release from Azure.

“Skeyetech-DIZI is a real innovation for the safety and environmental control of nuclear plants. Thanks to the miniaturization of the detector embedded in an autonomous drone, it offers significant advantages for radioactivity measurement compared to current solutions, ”explains Patrick Landais, President of the WNE Awards jury.

Drones for nuclear sites

Skeyetech-DIZI has already been used by customers in the French nuclear industry and the global nuclear industry is realizing this. Flying Beyond Line of Sight (BVLOS) is allowed in France under certain circumstances early in the development of the drone industry, allowing full autonomy and helping French drone manufacturers test and expand autonomous capabilities. Skeyetech’s autonomous drone solutions have been in use at the Orano La Hague site, a world-famous facility for the treatment and reuse of nuclear fuel, since the beginning of 2021.

“We are very proud to be able to equip some of the most sensitive locations in the world with our Made-in-France technology. Since Skeyetech was developed to improve the protection of people, assets and the environment in critical locations, the establishment in the nuclear space is a real victory for our teams ”, concludes Jean-Marc Crépin, CEO of Azur Drones.
