Apple’s macOS 12.1 replace addresses this main MacBook Professional 2021 challenge

2021 MacBook Pro owners are now paying attention because Apple’s upcoming macOS 12.1 update is one that you’ll want to download right away.

As first discovered by MacRumours, macOS 12.1 is still in beta, but has now reached developers as part of the release candidate phase for testing – meaning a solution to one of the main problems plaguing new MacBook Pros , is imminent.

In particular, macOS 12.1 fixes an issue where menu bar icons (or “Tools” in Apple language) are hidden behind the notch at the top of the screen on these devices when too many are open.

It’s not an overly common mistake, but it’s a big one and definitely not what you want to experience when you’ve spent £ 1,900 (at least) on a new Apple laptop.

It’s also not the only fix promised by the update. New MacBook Pro users may also find that it helps with YouTube HDR playback issues as well as an annoying MagSafe loading issue reported on 16-inch models of the 2021 laptop.

According to Apple’s release notes, macOS 12.1 fixes the following issues:

  • The desktop and screen saver may appear blank after selecting photos from the photo library
  • The trackpad might stop responding to taps or clicks
  • External displays may not be able to charge some MacBook Pro and MacBook Air computers when connected via Thunderbolt or USB-C
  • Playing HDR videos on YouTube.com could panic MacBook Pro computers in 2021
  • Menu bar extras can be hidden by the camera housing on MacBook Pro 2021 computers
  • MagSafe may stop charging on 2021 16-inch MacBook Pro computers when the lid is closed and the system is shut down

An exact release date for macOS 12.1 has not been announced, but unless there is anything unusual about the Release Candidate version of the software, you can expect the update to be available in the next week or two.
